Our History
First Christian Church of Bluff City, TN grew out of an all day convention for Sullivan County Christian Churches. The first meeting was held in Bluff City in the early 1900's even though there was no church there at the time. From this, the burden of Bluff City was on the hearts of several zealous people.
W. Clyde Smith, minister at that time to Central Christian Church of Bristol, TN, held a tent revival on Main Street in Bluff City in April of 1925. During this revival a committee was appointed to find and purchase a lot where a church building could be erected. One-half of the present site was purchased with the owner promising to give another lot of equal size if the building was erected within five years.
In the fall of 1925, J.J. Musick, Minister of First Christian Church in Erwin, TN held another revival on the new location. The First Christian Church of Bluff City began with C.H. Poage from Milligan College conducting the meetings.
Construction of the church building began in September of 1929 and was erected on the present site by all the churches of Sullivan County. The first meeting in the new building was held in January of 1930. R.M. Sims, minister of Central Christian Church in Bristol, TN brought the first message in the afternoon. From the organized Sunday School and Sunday afternoon preaching services, the congregation was officially organized in 1931.
From a small handful in the 1930's, the church has grown in attendance and square footage and is still dedicated to the task of being the Church revealed in the New Testament.
